KCRW
KCRW. It’s free and it’s good. We here out in LA take it for granted, but it occured to me that probably 90% of our readers are unaware of this great station. They call themselves a “taste making” station. They basically play all the new, hip, bleeding-edge-of-cool music before anyone’s heard of it. There’s hip-hop shows, there’s techno shows, and there’s their crown jewel “Morning Becomes Eclectic,” a show dedicated to whatever music the moment dictates. What makes KCRW so unique is it’s hand-picked music. It’s the way radio used to be. It’s the way radio should be. And it’s free. Enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy.

Amit:
My Morning Jacket - “Golden”
An acoustic guitar, steady country shuffle drumming and reverb vocals make “Golden” a rich change from the power chord drives of the Kentucky-based band My Morning Jacket. If you’re trying to build a playlist for a road trip, this track makes quite the modern addition amongst some classic James Taylor and Paul Simon tunes.

The Hold Steady - “How a Resurrection Really Feels”
“The priest just kind of laughed, the deacon caught a draft. She crashed into the Easter Mass with her hair done up in broken glass. She was limping left on broken heels when she said ‘Father, can I tell your congregation how a resurrection really feels?’” I mean, damn. Craig Finn might not sing, but he can sure as hell write. And to be honest, with a song closer to a short story of a sinner before she becomes a saint, a voice of straight whiskey and unfiltered cigarettes is the only delivery that makes sense. Rock and roll ain’t dead yet.

Live in NY? Like Seeing Celebs?
by dan

Check out Gawker Stalker. The all new service from those media overlords, Gawker. The service combines celeb sightings with Google maps to form an OCD, tabloid-loving freak’s wet dream. Here’s a screenshot below.

Now, I figure, “Why should New York have all the fun? What about an LA version of Gawker Stalker?” That’s what I say. And so, below you’ll find screenshots of the super-secret LA gawker stalker powered by C&V.

Rupert Grint Has A Playlist. Shoot Me.
by dan

Rupert Grint, better known to the world as “the red headed dude in Harry Potter,” has his own playlist on iTunes… while Harry himself sticks to Euro-rock, Rupert isn’t afraid to show his inner thug and flaunt his love for the “clean” versions of hits from Dre and Dizzee Rascal.
