Radiohead Bonnaroo DVD To Be Released
by amit

One of the best shows C&V attended at Bonnaroo ‘06 was a Saturday night show with Radiohead (setlist). Fans who weren’t lucky enough to attend, stop cutting yourselves. Lead singer Thom Yorke announced on the show “BBC Music 6″ that the epic 2.5 hour concert will be released on DVD soon. He noted,

“We did this festival called Bonnaroo. We did 2.5 hours. And there’s 80,000 people, admittedly they’ve been smoking the sticky green all day– probably wouldn’t go anywhere anyway. It was just amazing. We played loads of new stuff. We did whole sections of quiet piano songs and it sounds like the most grotesque, self-indulgent nonsense, but it probably is my favourite gig for years and years and years. It was a really mellow evening. Actually it’s all being filmed, but we’re sitting on it because there’s loads of new stuff on it. Because we’re mean like that. It will come out eventually.”

Yorke continued to profess his love for Bonnaroo to Pitchfork Media by adding,

“When we played Bonnaroo we got such a nice vibe, a genuine good feeling from the first beat. Things like Bonnaroo give you the hope that you can do it the other way…I dream to take some of that vibe and take it around the country…and then Clear Channel trying to fucking shut the gate down.”

Jimi Hendrix’s “Alcoholic Haze”
by amit

Jimi Hendrix was a guitar god in his day. With songs like “Purple Haze,” “Little Wing,” and “All Along the Watchtower” he paved the way for a generation of musicians still trying to emulate his iconic sound. According to Wikipedia, on the fateful night of September 18th, 1970 Hendrix got drunk and took nine Vesperax sleeping pills and was lost forever. So how does the Hendrix estate plan on commemorating almost 40 years since Jimi’s passing? With alcohol, of course. Introducing Jimi Hendrix brand Vodka, Tequila, and soon to hit the shelves, Rum. The product’s website claims the booze is “inspired by the same sense of innovation and artistic vision” Hendrix had. Hmmm…the same innovation who decided wine plus Vesperax equals fun time? This could be the worst idea of postmortem marketing to date. I doubt Jimi would like to see his image and large fro on the face liquor bottles. Cross your fingers the estate doesn’t come out with Hendrix brand rolling papers and syringes. Hopefully the late guitar virtuoso won’t be too upset over the Jimi-inspired martini and shot glasses, tumblers, and martini shakers also sold on the website.

Elton John To Do Hip-Hop Album
by amit

You’ve read the headline correct. According to Reuters, Elton John will delve into the sampled word of hip-hop music after 40 years of producing soundtracks and ballads. EJ stated,

“I want to work with Pharrell (Williams), Timbaland, Snoop (Dogg), Kanye (West), Eminem and just see what happens. It may be a disaster, it could be fantastic, but you don’t know until you try.”

No street cred needed.

A gay guy who wants to do hip-hop? C&V discovered Elton’s too late…

New OutKast Album On MySpace
by amit

Our contributor Nate sent us a heads-up on some OutKast news. On the official OutKast MySpace page their entire new album “Idlewild” is up and available to stream. Is the “Speakerboxx/The Love Below” America ready for this album despite the tastes of “Hey Ya!” and “Roses” still on their palate? “Idlewild” could prove to be a harder album to swallow thanks to tracks like the stripped down blues and beat number “Idlewild Blue (Don’tchu Worry ’bout Me).” Not say it isn’t quality work. OutKast has always had the unique sound that’s helped play on almost all genres of radio airwaves. Either way, head on over to the MySpace page and judge for yourself. Don’t forget the duo is also releasing a feature length movie of the same name “coming soon.”
