Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the celebrtiy/diplomat duo, have done the impossible. Thanks to the safe haven country of Namibia, they’ve managed to have a healthy baby far from the prying eyes of the press and paparazzi. But, truth be told, that isn’t the most startling news. It’s the baby’s name. Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. That’s right, Jolie-Pitt named their firstborn after one of the most tragic events of the American Civil War (read more about the Battle of Shiloh). Now whenever people go to pinch her cheeks or comment on her cuteness, they’ll think “Wasn’t that the battle where ‘a total of 23,741 men were killed, wounded, captured, or missing, more than the American casualties of the American Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Mexican War combined?’” Sadly and surprisingly, they’ll be 100% correct.

We’ve learned several celebrities have considered horrendous incidents in history as first names. C&V doesn’t know why, we just report the “facts.” Take a look at celebrity couples and their baby name contenders.

Marie Antoinette, Sofia Coppola’s follow-up to her directorial debut Lost in Translation, opened up at Cannes Film Festival to a barrage of snickers and boo’s from the most cordial of people, the French. According to Breitbart.com, the film had “a disappointing and unconvincing story” all to the tune of a rock n’ roll soundtrack. It’s still very early to call the film a flop, but we’ll be watching it’s TomatoMeter.

So, Sofia, what happened? We tried to save your teaser trailer with the cure-all song, Whitesnake’s “Here I Come Again,” instead of your New Order track pick. Hopefully your movie will test better with an American audience. If not, there’s always the wine business.

Here’s the C&V trailer mash again:

(HR) Director Ang Lee will follow-up the short story-based Brokeback Mountain with another short story titled Lust, Caution. The film claims to an “espionage thriller” set in 1940’s Shanghai during WWII and will begin production this fall. The story should live up to Lee’s hype after learning Eileen Change will pen the Chinese-language screenplay from a work by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’s screenwriter Wang Hui-Ling. Lee’s cohort on 9 films, James Schamus, believes
“Ang is going to be making a very exciting film that’s unlike anything he’s done before. [It's an] uniquely Asian story which, in Ang’s hands, will surprise and attract audiences around the world.”

Lee, 2006’s Best Director, caused quite a ruckus with Brokeback Mountain and its cowboy/man-on-man themes. After losing to Crash for Best Picture, Mountain’s short story writer, Annie Proulx, published an essay for “The Guardian” claiming the Academy voters were “out of touch” and “segregated” with the real world. According to Contact Music, Proulx even went as far as to call Crash, Trash. What a racist.
