All the stars of black Hollywood came out to celebrate the 2nd Annual Black Movie Awards in Los Angeles. Writer, director, and actor Tyler Perry, “Diary of a Mad Black Woman,” hosted the 90-minute show that honored the African-American film community.
Akeelah & the Bee took home 4 awards, including the award for Outstanding Motion Picture of the Year. Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett both won for Outstanding Actor / Actress in a Supporting Role. Of course the film was nothing without leading lady, actually teenager, Keke Palmer who walked away with a BMA for Outstanding Actress in a Leading Role.
Legendary actress Cicely Tyson was presented the Distinguished Career Achievement Award by no other than the legend herself, Oprah Winfrey. Yes—gal pal Gayle King was there. She watched this momentous occasion from the audience.

But all the excitement started way before the show even began. Fans cheered the actors and actresses as they walked down the red carpet. Some ditched their dates and came with family instead. Tracee Ellis Ross of “Girlfriends” arrived with her kid brother, Evan, and Mario Van Peebles showed up with his legendary dad, both sons, and his adorable little girl.
Age has been good to Billy Dee Williams. He looked as handsome as ever in his dark suit and he still had all his hair.

Reality queen Omarosa and comedian Monique garnered attention for different reasons. Omarosa let her boobs do the talking while Monique let the hairs on her legs do the pointing.

And then of course what would stars be without their fans. One crazy woman jumped onto the red carpet and had a reporter take a picture of her with “ATL” actress Megan Good.

Still, the night turned out to be a success. Until next year.

The fantastic folks over at the Associated Content have interviewed both Dan and myself about the birth of C&V, our influences, and, of course, some clever word associations.
Jump on over to the AC and read the in-depth 3-page email interview that’s sure to make history.
Thanks Nick.

The first few episodes of Season 3 have brought a number of new characters onto “Lost,” including a smug Other and two n00b survivors from Fligth 815.
First is new guy Paolo (Rodrigo Santoro), who apparently didn’t benefit from the shower, sinks, and mirrors that Locke and company had access to when the hatch was still intact:

The other new Lostie is Nikki (Kiele Sanchez), who in her very first scene yells at Hurley. Great first impression. She looks like Ali Larter, who may finally earn some credibility on NBC’s “Heroes,” which you should try watching if you’re not already:

And last but not least is Jack’s new gatekeeper, Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell), who famously did a nude scene with Angelina Jolie in a made-for-TV movie about… oh, who cares. With her boobs covered up, we have nothing much to look at but the obnoxious smug smirk she has permanently plastered on her face.

P.S. I hate Juliet.
But man oh man, do I love this show.

In the 1950’s America was in an accusatory, finger-pointing uproar thanks to Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy. The nutty Senator from Wisconsin went on an anti-Communism campaign, dubbed “McCarthyism,” in order to out all the “red” Americans. Fast forward to fifty years later and we’re doing the same thing, except gayer. According to The Daily Kos, Mike Rogers, a proud and prominent gay activist, has outed Sen. Larry Craig not as a red Commie bastard, but rather a red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple homosexual (P.C. term: homo). Is gay the new Communism on Capitol Hill? If so, it’s a real tragedy Vladimir “died in the closet” Lenin never lived to see the People’s Bed, Bath, and Beyond (coming to Bethesda, MD Spring 2007).

These allegations plus the 3-ring media circus of the Mark Foley scandal has the movie and theatre industry in an effeminate and jealous uproar. Andy Dick, in an unconfirmed and lisped quote, stated,
“Politics aren’t where gays are supposed to be. [We]‘re thespians and unfunny comedians, not congressmen. Plus everyone knows the antique shopping in D.C. blows.”
Now that gay Republican and strait Andy Dick are no longer oxymorons, we could be on the brink of a McCarthy-style outing war. Finally Americans will be in a war they understand and maybe even support, as long as marriage isn’t in it. Who will the next target? What senator will be caught spouting the names of women’s designer shoes? Which congressman will be photographed around just enough women to be considered a man-on-man lover and not a pimp (the limit’s 4)? Only time will tell. Or maybe a TIME cover story.

“That’s My Bush” came from the minds of “South Park” co-creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Though the show only had an 8 episode run on Comedy Central in 2001, it left an indelible mark on what a dunce our current president really is. Thankfully, next Tuesday you’ll be able to relive the entire series through the release of a snazzy DVD compilation. But why buy it? Win it! Starting now, C&V’s hosting a contest to win your very own copy of the DVD thanks to our buds over at Comedy Central. All you have to do comment below with the funniest (real) “Bush-ism” from his 6 year run of presidenting. The contest ends 10/27. Good luck!
“That’s My Bush” hits shelves October 24, 2006.
Note: Please include your email address, which will stay hidden from the world, so we can contact you if you’re a winner.
