When you think hardcore and classic Hollywood, what name comes to mind? Humphrey Bogart? No, he’s suave and cool, not necessarily bad-to-the-bone. Jimmy Stewart? Too goofy. James Dean? Almost, he has the look and attitude, but no. Still discombobulated? Let GAP help. The clothing outlet choose none other than Audrey Hepburn to rock out to AC/DC in their new iPod-esque commercial. The TV ad selling “the skinny black pant” is a real mismatch of legendary celluloid and vinyl. Watch Holly Golightly gallivant across the screen to the opening licks of “Back in Black” and then wonder why GAP didn’t use a tap dancing, drugged up Courtney Love instead. This is probably the first TV advertisement appearance of the late Hepburn and the 3,835 emergence of an AC/DC song selling a company the band’s never heard of. It’s not the first tv commercial she has been in. It is the first one in the USA in a long time. But there have been several TV commercials in Japan where she is advertising tea. Those are freaky because in some of them she is made to look alive and talking…
It is not Holly Golightly but Jo Stockton that Ms Hepburn plays in Funny Face. And she played alongside Fred Astaire, who was thirty years older than she… so Funny Face has kind of a “weirdness” all to itself. Course George Gershwin did the music, not AC/DC.

I think it’s a cute concept. I mean, Audrey DID make the skinny black pants hot in the 60s, so since it’s making a comeback now, it only makes sense to have Audrey advertising it :o). I think it works well with the AC/DC song.

Audrey Hepburn was the epitome of fun in her early years, and in later years, class!. The commercial is brilliant, and it’s wonderful to see Audrey (regardless of the GAP message).

The best part of the ad is how it mocks most of the people posting on this topic. The song is about dead lead singer Bonn Scott returning from the dead as a reanimated corpse to belf out heavy-metal. It is in such obviously poor taste to anyone who knows the song–but seems “cute” to anyone who doesnt.
The ad exec’s have to be laughing out of the sides of their meat-holes, or whatever you call the mouth of a flesh-eating zombie.

You well-meaning pseudo-intellectuals need a cranial enema. This spot is pure entertainment, and far more compelling than 95% of the TV programming in which it appeared. Audrey hawked her share of wares in her time, and would’ve said “hell yes!” to this commercial if she’d been asked. Enjoy the 30 seconds of fun this ad brings to your otherwise dreary lives and get over yourselves.
