Dan:
The Commodores - “Nightshift”
So, the outfit of the week honors the late, great Syd Barrett, who just recently passed away. And my song of the week honors Milan B. Williams, founding member of “the Commodores,” who just lost his long battle with cancer. Williams played keys and wrote the band’s first hit, “Machine Gun.” However, I’ve chosen the mellow slowjam, “Nightshift,” in honor of all my brethren over at Amagi’s Karaoke bar on Sunset. As a side note, I’d like to point out how classy this post is in comparison to our “in memoriam” for Wilson Pickett.

Cut Chemist - “The Garden”
Hip-hop with a dash of electronica doesn’t even begin to describe Cut Chemist’s newest concoction, “The Garden.” It’s a chill, laid-back track made from a mixture of odd and interesting samples all laced with a soothing female vocal lead (surprisingly, her non-English lyrics fit well). This track made me a fan of Cut Chemist, probably due to it’s incessant air time on KCRW. Either way, it’s a worthy listen.
