Johnny Cash - “God’s Gonna Cut You Down”
From the latest Johnny Cash CD, “American V: A Hundred Highways.” This track, a foot pounding, hand-clapping ditty about God putting a hit out on a man, will be sure to remind anyone why Johnny Cash is a legend. Here’s a traditional folk-blues number that puts gospel’s spirituality alongside murder. It’s a track that’s exemplary of all that made Cash great. The ability to take the roots and make them his own. And that’s what makes Johnny Cash a legend.

Junkie XL - “Such a Tease”
After reading a write-up on Electronica guru, Junkie XL, and his reach in music today I got a hold of his most recent album “Today.” Not only is Junkie XL the man behind the Elvis Presley remix of “A Little Less Conversation,” he’s also done countless video game and movie scores (The Matrix). Junkie XL, real name Tom Holkenborg , believes “movies, commercials, and video games are the new radio for electronic music…Millions of people who would never go to a Junkie XL show or buy a Junkie XL album [hear] it. That’s beautiful.” My pick, “Such a Tease,” loops guitars, electronic swells and accents to paint a unique electronic landscape that only a man willing to spend “18 hours a day in an Amsterdam basement mainlining MIDI and sucking down samples in a binge of creativity” could pull off.
